Today I’m back with Giovanna Estocin from the G-Spa Massage Clinic to discuss preventing injuries when moving.
Moving day can come with a lot of heavy lifting, so it is important to move correctly in order to avoid putting unnecessary stress on your body. When you’re moving, you use your whole body. Giovanna says that it is important to use your legs when lifting boxes. Repetitive motions, like taping boxes, can cause injuries as well. You should also avoid lifting things over your shoulder. There are three things to remember while moving and packing. Watch the video above to see Giovanna demonstrate the proper way to move things.
- Don’t use your back when lifting boxes. You will throw your back out. Use your legs and quads.
- Avoid pivoting with your waist when setting boxes down. Walk boxes to their proper place and set them down. Pivoting with your waist can cause stress in your lower body.
- Avoid stacking boxes past your shoulders. Lifting over your shoulders can hurt your neck and shoulder muscles, so have someone help you or make smaller stacks.
Using proper technique will prevent unnecessary injuries on moving day.
As we mentioned earlier, be careful when taping boxes shut as well. Make sure your boxes are in front of you and don’t overextend your arms.
After your day of packing, there are a few simple exercises and stretches you can do to relieve stress, prevent injuries, and ease soreness. Watch Giovanna demonstrate these exercises in the video above. Of course, you can always get a massage to ease any tension once you have finished moving. If you are interested in getting a massage or if you have any questions for Giovanna, give her a call at (213) 632-8180 or visit her website.
As always, if you have any questions about the moving process or real estate in general, just give me a call or send me an email. I would be happy to help you!
