Meteorologists predict El Niño will approach Southern California this season. We seem to forget about this trend as years pass by without heavy rainfall. Today, we compiled some tips to prepare your home for inclement weather!

  • Clean your gutters and downspouts. Clear debris from this area. It’s common for leaves to get caught without notice. Seal up holes. If your home doesn’t have gutters, consider adding them before the rainy season comes.
  • Inspect for leaks. Dry heat may have caused wooden structures to shrink and open up, which creates leaks. Call your roofer today to avoid any leaks during inclement weather. Often, leaks occur at metal connecting points. Avoid the damage!
  • Check your balcony and deck slopes. Inspect slopes for erosion.
  • Examine retaining walls. Ensure they won’t fail on you this season.
  • Check the basic grading. This applies especially for those on a flat level lot. Water should run away from your home, not gravitate towards it. Don’t let rainwater into your home.
