Today I'm with Johanna Poole from Solar City and she's going to be speaking about how easy it is to harness solar energy in your home. In the past, you had to buy solar panels for your home, but now there multiple different purchasing options that make them affordable and worthwhile.
The most popular plan is a power purchase agreement, where you just switch from electric to solar. I recently did this, and I'm saving nearly $175 per month! There is no money down and your rates will also be reduced. The upfront costs are also relatively low. Solar City will come out and install the panels on your home at no charge. It's just a very simple way to reduce your energy costs.
You may have heard some things on the radio about solar power only being worth it if your energy bill was more than $150, but this isn't exactly true. Typically you will see some savings if your energy bill is anywhere near $60 or $70 per month.
A solar lease lasts quite a while (solar panels last for 30 years), so if you move, Solar City has an entire department dedicated to transferring people. It's also important to note that adding solar power to your home does typically increase the value.
