Today we’re here to talk about one of the great local organizations I support: Musique Sur La Mer. I’m joined by Marcy Sudock, the organization’s director, to talk a little bit about what she does and why her organization is such a great addition to the community.
Musique Sur La Mer orchestras empower young musicians aged 7 to 24 to create a better environment and serve the community through music. They hold concerts, raise funds and awareness for a variety of charities, and host a number of other activities.
One of the things we love about this organization is that it allows kids to learn and grow musically while also serving the local community. They have been in business as a nonprofit organization for 19 years now, and many of the former members of the organization have grown up and become incredible citizens, musicians, physicians, attorneys, and more.
There are three basic ways you can support this organization yourself. The first is by attending one of their concerts. I was blown away by the skill level that some of these young musicians have. To find out when their next events are taking place, check out www.mslmorchestra.com. There are a number of events during each time of year, all of them local to the Long Beach area.
If you have children that are musically inclined, this is a great place for them to learn and grow.
If you have children or know children who are wanting to join an orchestra, this is a great opportunity. They start as young as seven, where there is no audition required. The beginning orchestra is called La Petite Musique
The musicians aged 15 and up are in the Musique Sur La Mer Youth Symphony orchestra. This program is audition-only and they audition year-round.
